Students on academic warning (with a CGPA 2.00 – 2.50) and academic probation (with a CGPA below 2.00) are required to meet with Academic Advising Staff at least twice a semester to discuss their challenges, progress, and any support they need to ensure they are improving their academic performance.
Each school at LUMS has designed an advising system that seeks to provide students with the appropriate information and support. Depending on the school, this advising system may involve faculty advisors, staff advisors, peer advisors, group sessions/workshops and online resources. Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law
At SAHSOL, we strive to ensure our students have access to reliable information and diverse perspectives for making informed decisions about their academic and professional goals as they progress through each year of their studies at LUMS. To this end, we offer a holistic network of advising support that works in synergy to meet students' varied and evolving needs that may be academic or non-academic in nature.
Students are expected to meet with Academic Advising staff at least once a semester to discuss their enrollment plans and progress on completion of pre-law requirements. They can also utilize PALS for individual and group support on social life adjustment, adapting to academic rigor and expectations as they transition into the BA phase, and how to chart their own unique path at LUMS. -Students can meet with the Programme Coordinator for understanding the requirements of law curriculum for the three years of the LLB phase, enrollment in law courses, Directed Research Project (DRP) applications, and law elective course offerings.
LLB students are assigned faculty advisors and are required to have at least one meeting per semester with them to identify and work towards specialized interests within law. For more information, click here
Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering
The Academic Affairs Office aims at ensuring that all students have the opportunity to make the most of their experience at SBASSE, through individualized and developmentally-appropriate advising support that fosters informed and effective decision-making, and through meaningful interactions with advisors that empower students to explore their educational interests and develop plans appropriate for achieving their academic goals.
Students facing probation during any given semester (students with a CGPA below 2.00) have a mandatory check-in with staff advisors to discuss their academic performance and receive any additional support.
In their first year at SBASSE, students enroll in a year-long, one-credit tutorial, half a credit in the Fall and half in the Spring. They are assigned a faculty advisor, whom they meet three to four times each semester, and a PAL, a selected junior or senior who helps them navigate university resources and adjust to life at LUMS.
Once the students move to their sophomore year and have declared their major, they would then be reassigned a faculty advisor in their major for the remainder of their programme at SBASSE.
Junior year students have one optional meeting with their faculty advisor in Fall and one mandatory meeting in Spring. Additionally, the students in their senior year have one optional meeting with their faculty advisor in Fall and no mandatory meetings. For more information, click here
Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani School of Humanities and Social
MGSHSS Academic Advising Unit (AAU) aims to promote positive outcomes in MGSHSS students by supporting them through their journey at LUMS. It incorporates faculty, students and administrators who give both academic and non-academic guidance.
Students on probation and academic warning have regular check-ins with a dedicated Academic Advisor assigned to them.
At MGSHSS, students are enrolled in a year-long, one-credit First-Year Tutorial, half a credit in the Fall and half in the Spring. They are also assigned a PAL at the start of their first year, who remains in contact with them until the end of sophomore year through mandatory and voluntary meetings. Students attend structured one-on-one sessions with their staff advisors to review their academic progress and address any concerns.
Faculty advisors are assigned to students once they select and enter their majors and comprise faculty from their chosen majors. Faculty advisors act as field experts to guide their advisees on different topics. Your university years are an exciting time in your life, a time when you're figuring out who you are, what you want to do, and how to get there. You'll be making a lot of important decisions at LUMS that will shape your future. These decisions may be challenging, but you are not alone! Your advisors are here to help you learn the skills you need to tackle the big questions.
Students on warning (with a CGPA 2.50 – 2.00) and probation (with a CGPA below 2.00) have mandatory meetings with their academic advisor at least 2 to 4 times a semester.
PALss are available for all first-year students. From orientation week till end of first year, PALss are readily available to provide first year students with holistic social support that can help them to transition into LUMS and feel welcomed.
Once sophomores at SDSB have declared their major, they are assigned a faculty advisor till the end of sophomore year. Sophomores are required to attend one mandatory meeting in Fall with their assigned faculty advisor. Juniors are also assigned a faculty advisor and are required to attend a mandatory meeting in Spring.
Students can always reach out to the Staff Academic Advisors with any query or concern related to academic decision making.
